Afraid to Start Something New? Try This!

If you told me a few years ago that I’d be comfortable sitting in front of a camera and sharing my thoughts with the world, I wouldn’t have believed you. As a shy and introverted person, the idea of putting myself out there felt daunting—terrifying, even. But deep down, I wanted to challenge myself and prove that it was possible for introverts like me to share their voice, connect with others, and thrive in spaces where we might feel out of place.

My journey wasn’t easy, but it was worth it. And if you’re standing at the edge of your comfort zone, wondering if you should take that leap, this is your sign to go for it.

Why I Decided to Face the Camera

It all started with a desire to inspire other introverts. I realized that if I could step outside my shell and share my story, I might encourage others to do the same. It wasn’t about being perfect or extroverted; it was about showing up as my authentic self and proving that introverts can have a voice, too.

The first time I hit "record," I was scared. My mind raced with questions: What if I mess up? What if people judge me? But I also knew that if I waited for the fear to disappear, I might never start.

So I decided to push through. I chose topics I was passionate about—fashion, self-improvement, and beauty—and used that passion as fuel. Every video I made became a small victory, and over time, repetition turned the scary into the familiar.

What I Learned Along the Way

  1. You don’t have to be perfect to be impactful. My first videos weren’t flawless, but they were authentic.
  2. Passion trumps fear. When you focus on what you love, the fear becomes background noise.
  3. Repetition builds confidence. The more I practiced, the easier it became to speak naturally in front of the camera.

Tips for Starting Something New (Even When It’s Scary)

As the new year approaches, it’s the perfect time to take that leap you’ve been hesitant about. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Start Small: Break your goal into manageable steps. For me, this meant recording a few practice videos before uploading anything publicly.
  2. Focus on Passion: Choose something you genuinely care about—it’ll keep you motivated even when fear creeps in.
  3. Expect Imperfection: Let go of the need to get everything right on the first try. Progress is more important than perfection.
  4. Create a Routine: Repetition is your best friend. The more you show up, the more comfortable you’ll feel.
  5. Find Support: Surround yourself with people who uplift you, whether it’s friends, family, or an online community.
  6. Visualize Success: Picture yourself achieving your goal and the impact it will have on your life and others.

A New Year, a New Chapter

The beginning of a new year is a powerful reminder that fresh starts are possible. If I can go from hiding behind the scenes to confidently sharing my voice, you can take that first step toward whatever goal you’ve been putting off.

Whether it’s starting a YouTube channel, launching a creative project, or pursuing a long-time dream, remember: You don’t have to wait for the fear to go away. Take the leap, even if it feels scary. Because on the other side of discomfort is growth—and maybe even a version of yourself you’ve been waiting to meet.
